I've just watched a rerun of Star Portraits with Rolf Harris made by the BBC.  This sitting does not show the huge variations that some do.  All are different and the subject never chooses my favourite.  So many portraits, so many styles we've had here on Christy's art blog.  Here are 3 more.  Begun over a 5 hour sitting and completed at the artists' home studio over the following 2 weeks.  The subject has to choose 1 portrait to own.  British artists are top left Maggie Milne (pastel), top right Kim Beer, John Raynes.

This is the best quality pic I can get of him. it still glared somewhat but the black can be fixed digitally. It is actually a scan. I wish I could scan them all, because that yellow in the pic is actually right on.

Baby Angels

This image makes me cry too--just like the one Christy painted.

I think of them as baby angels, as you can tell from my heading.

It reminds me of after my dad died. We walked around the cemetary because we've got other relatives burried there too. As we walked around, we discovered a section of the semetary devoted to children and infants. I can't remember what it was titled but they did have a special name for that section.

To me, it will always be baby angels.

As you see there is major differences in the images, that was done deliberately. I only sketched the people and did the background freehand for practice. I am certain I will tweek the painting several more times before I am satified completely, maybe for another day, maybe for a few years. It was good practice.

Some faces tell a story.  This is  one.  Some faces hide horror.  This is one.  Some eyes are teary.  This is one.  Some faces tell of inner agony.  This is one.  Some faces are good and honest and worthy of trust.  This is one.  To me.

Early 20th century houses in my neighbourhood

Walking around my neighbourhood I'm filled with stories that must be contained within the walls of the old houses still standing where they were built up to a hundred years ago.  They are reminiscent of European architecture brought to Tasmania with our earliest free settlers.  This first one, a relatively new house - the biggest of all - is not one of the new Australian MacMansions but seems very European to me also, so I've included it here.  The main house is 3 storey.  The garage is 3 cars wide. 

It was either miss the top of the roof or miss the gorgeous statue in the garden.  Sorry about the awful pink bin - a sign that this is a house of the 3rd millenium.  I love this house - I wonder of the country of the original owners.  The house,  the overgrown garden, are reminiscent of the literature of my childhood.  And the overgrown garden at the back is the location of exciting children's adventures.  I had a couple of other houses but I'm told that I cannot "contact Blogger.com".  I will do them at another time.

The Red on this one washed out some in the daylight. The true color of that background is literally named REAL red. Think candy apple red. I love it. The high contrast between the black and the red just pops on the actual canvas.

Anyways, As you can see I added detail to her hair, and fixed some tiny dots on her shirt.

Other than dry time, she's finished.

My Kitchen And The Green Door

I am sorry Rossi that it took me a year to get pics of my house, but it has been undergoing a makeover.

Where does that green door lead? To the laundryroom/coatroom refridgerator, trash and backdoor. The other green door in the first batch of pics is my room. One day I may actually clean that up and get you some more pics of the make over.

Truly Revolutionary... A Car That Runs On AIR

BBC News is reporting that a French company has developed a pollution-free car which runs on compressed air. India's Tata Motors has the car under production and it may be on sale in Europe and India by the end of the year.



The air car, also known as the Mini-CAT or City Cat, can be refueled in minutes from an air compressor at specially equipped gas stations and can go 200 km on a 1.5 euro fill-up -- roughly 125 miles for $3. The top speed will be almost 70 mph and the cost of the vehicle as low as $7000.



The car features a fibreglass body and a revolutionary electrical system and is completely computer-controlled. It is powered by the expansion of compressed air, using no combustion at all, and the exhaust is entirely clean and cool enough for use in the internal air conditioning system.

Albrecht Dürer was one of the first artists to paint a self portrait.  Multi-skilled, he was a painter, an engraver, a wood-cutter.  At that time woodcuts were used as illustrations in books.

The Flight Into Egypt is an engraving. I'm stunned that the baby is naked, considering the time of year this was.
