This stayed in my head all through the night and I woke up thinking of what struck me when I first saw this yesterday - after my first gasp - it was the beautiful color of the clay.
I also love that she is looking far away. It reminds me that indigenous peoples have such keen senses that they can *sense* a presence far, far away whether in the desert or in forest-covered mountains. The senses were more in tune to the surrounds, I believe, because they were not encased in clothing and shoes and buildings.
They were always skin-to-skin with the earth and all it nourished.
Originally done in marble I read. And I've just realized why she haunts me so - the ropes are those binding a slave! She is probably looking over her shoulder to her home that she will never see again.
And now the work is even more powerful, presenting such beauty within the confines of such treachery.

And her hair - it is gorgeous.
Me too, she haunts me.
What an incredibly beautiful work she is.
I would love to just run my fingers over her throat and those perfect shoulders.
And her hair too, yes.
She is bewitching.
Ok - it's the light - what color is the clay? I do love the deep-red-earth color of the first one here.
The sculpture itself is exceptional. Even her eyes are enticing. They must be the hardest part of a sculpture.

Yeah I think that pretty colored one is marble. The updated pic a bronze.
That is a beautiful color on that marble.
And, until I pulled the pic of the bronze I also did not notice it was ropes binding her, I thought it was a ribbon on her dress at first.
You are right, the ropes cchanges the perception of her, makes her even more beautiful and fragile.
She is fierce and fragile.
