Raphael: Madonna of the Chair

Looking at and commenting on the painting by Titian posted by Christy made me think of others of the masters who painted the real beauty of women - and not a perception of beauty designed by the cosmetic and diet industries.  Of course I looked to Raphael and the first picture that came up was this absolute beauty.

Now the baby may appear to be a little sumo wrestler.  He looks so heavy he makes me tired.  The love captured here is complete.  The mother is not the walking skeleton of today's magazine promotion.  She's a beautiful, soft, fleshy woman.  This is a scene of childhood.  The memory of a mother's lap.  The painting is beautiful and the memories are too.

Me, too, I prefer soft fleshy women.

The stick figures we have running around today would hardly be worth the paint.

That baby makes me tired too. What a chunk.
