Was how damn jealous he was of other truly gifted artists. You can not read an account of Michelangelo without confronting his jealous nature.
"Leonardo was more than thirty years older than Raphael, but Michelangelo, who was in Rome for this period, was just eight years his senior. Michelangelo already disliked Leonardo, and in Rome came to dislike Raphael even more, attributing conspiracies against him to the younger man."
How could a man so supremely gifted in his own right, in every way, be so jealous of those around him?
It really makes you think he had a serious problem, you know, mentally.
I believe it was probably caused by the fact the he, himself, was a political tool for the Di Medici family. He was the puppet of power hungry popes and nobles. It is well known he NEVER considered himself a painter first. He was a sculptor and that is all he ever wanted to be.
Just think of the heights he could have reached if he had been allowed the freedom of his own art. It certainly would have helped his ego.
