Greetings from Seoul

Good evening! It's almost 2PM on Tuesday 9/16 here in Seoul. I landed here almost 9 hours ago, and on the bus ride into downtown from the airport, was able to see some signs of how the new Lee Myung-bak regime, a major supporter of the US Republicans, has been making middle-class life ever harder.

I am within walking distance of the National Museum of Korea, which I had previously visited, but will probably visit again today to fight the jet lag. (It's free admission anyway.) If I do, I will upload some new photos in addition to my last batch. It's open for another 4 hours.

For now, I will leave you with a preview, from the museum's website: a 14th Century Korean Kwan Yin statue, in her trademark pose. Kwan Yin (觀音) is known in Korean as Gwaneum (관음), though in English texts, the Korean convention is to use the Sanskrit male name Avalokitesvara. (I wouldn't feel so flattered if someone put up a portrait of me somewhere - and captioned it with a male name.)

Looking forward to it Ally! We can live vicariously through you!

Glad to know you got there ok.

I am so excited to learn about Asian art through the eyes of someone who can actually understand it and interpret it for us. it is nothing like the art I spent a lifetime studying.

Sometimes I am such a white girl it is not even funny.

I have to go fight my pillow for a few hours, see if I can squeeze atleast a two hour nap out of it before my kids get up for school.

You too, get some rest. Long day all around, but yours was longer than most.

Stay safe Darlin!

Thanks!

Got back from the museum. Although the Kwan Yin that I previewed in this post is currently visiting Belgium on an exhibition, there were plenty of other Kwan Yins and other items to more than make up for her absence.

I will start uploading a few (okay, a lot of) pics shortly.

BTW, plenty of gorgeous white women (and men) at the museum, as well. They all come here - to learn something.
