Back to the Beginning.

Because of linear perspective, I do believe in this phase I will be doing commissions on the side, and practice canvases, always, but... There is simply no way around going back to the basics and focusing on sketch work.

So, if I seem to be unproductive for a while, you'll know it is because I am a slow learner.

......

And I almost forgot. I would like to welcome Cedric to our blog. He is my new apprentice and as such he will be expected to be on here occasionally. He and my son will be sketching with me and I am looking forward to it. Their strengths very much compliment each other. Cedric is loosely related to me, but he has a lot of talent and I do believe once he engages in study he will develop quite fast. I have watched him closely this last year and he has proven several times he has what it takes to see it through.

We also will work on human forms as well, just to test strengths and weaknesses. They can teach me linear perspective and I can teach them portraiture.

Cedric, I am going to link you up here, and your first study will be the same as Christians. Once you are finished reading up on it, we will all be doing sketches of the dome itself. I am so glad you accepted my offer and already watching you work makes me very proud !

If anyone is wondering...

But why would she make them study an architect instead of a painter first?

Very simple, for one, this particular architect was also a goldsmith and artist in his own right.

And using both artistic vision and mathmatical calculations he accomplished something everyone said could not be done.

My mind is not mathmatical, everyone knows I read numbers ass backwards. Language is my domain.

However both Christian and Cedric do have mathmatical leanings in their art. Thier lines are very precise and linear.

I feel they should begin at a place where architechture, art, and drafting all combine. That is where I feel is the best place to start. Their art will never edure, unless the walls it hangs on remains intact.

Cedric and Christian both want to be painters, but both are young men, 17 and 18, so they may very well decide sculting or any other medium is more to their liking.

No matter which direction they go in, they can learn more from this architect than they can from even the Master painters.

They will get full doses of the Masters. But first things first. Build the wall, THEN decorate it.
