What the hell is a virginal? I know now. I think.

Christy - you and your students might really enjoy this - there's a zoomable feature where you can zoom right in on any chosen point of the painting.

That is VERY COOL!
TY Woz.
I like this one. All of his are just so...calm. Emotional, yet not obviously so.
I love the way he painted cloth.
On a technical level, Vermeer was so advanced he even beats out Michelangelo. Even Da Vinci.
I would say Raffael too, but Raffael would have beaten them all had he lived.
Vermeer left behind a real treasure trove. That is for sure.
I went to the National Gallery London site because I plan to visit there while in London for a week and wanted to know what I must not miss. On the site, that painting was chosen as the "painting of the month".
We will go on a guided tour. Sometimes it's the best way to be sure to see the *absolute* treasures. And to get the history and stories attached to each of the pieces. I'm sure the NG of London could use a whole week of exploration, but we don't have that luxury.
And I when I looked at the zoom feature the possibilities were lost on me. But I knew it would not be wasted on you.
A virginal is a piano of sorts.
